Morganton Courthouse Square is the embodiment of the City's desire to support community events, such as their beer festival and music series. The City's infrastructure needed a front door that could help bring the community together in a central space. Previously the site of a jail, the site's natural slope presented an opportunity for an amphitheater. Overall upgrades to the site's amenities, such as lunch spots and gathering nodes, embrace the Courthouse Square. Meridian stones set on true north emphasize the site's place within its larger context. The pavilion is inspired by the natural landscape and surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains with a rolling form clad in natural materials. Sculptural art brings in tones of the mountain ranges and nods to the art work, textile industry, and furniture-making history of the community.
