BlauHaus takes the vernacular gabled house and questions how much is needed to serve its function. The façade is treated as a foldable membrane, responding to the site and interior forms. While the gabled side houses residential functions, the flat roofed form is primarily for storage and utilitarian usage, keeping the residential side modest and orderly. The home is stripped of excess ornamentation as the form has been simplified to its base function, evidenced by the facades willingness to respond to the interior spaces. Everything within the building contributes to the project, from the built in storage units below the main stairway, to the artistic industrial sliding doors. The use of red accents calls attention to the functional elements of the home, celebrating the art of necessity.
