Black Mountain Chocolate
Retail
As North Carolina’s original bean-to-bar chocolate workshop, Black Mountain Chocolate sought to expand its brand into a full-service Chocolate Bar, transitioning seamlessly from a welcoming daytime café to an inviting, sophisticated nighttime venue. Nestled within the urban-industrial setting of the Innovation Quarter, this new space needed to embody the warmth of Southern Appalachian hospitality while embracing the raw, factory-inspired aesthetic of its surroundings.

The design achieves this balance through a thoughtful interplay of materials, colors, and textures. Inspired by the craftsmanship synonymous with the Appalachian region, the space incorporates primary materials like warm wood and sleek metal, creating a dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Accent colors of orange, plum, and blue add vibrancy and playfulness, paying homage to the rich hues of chocolate and its natural ingredients while also creating a dynamic visual experience.
Guests are drawn into an environment designed to elevate all the senses. The smell of freshly roasted cocoa beans and decadent confections fills the air, while atmospheric lighting and plush, upholstered seating create a sense of warmth and comfort. Clean lines and craftsman-inspired details add a timeless elegance, inviting patrons to linger and savor both the flavors and the ambiance.
The design of Black Mountain Chocolate created a space that seamlessly bridges the heritage of Appalachian charm with the energy and sophistication of its urban context.
