Art for Art’s Sake
Cultural
Art For Art’s Sake (AFAS) is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is “To Build, Educate and Celebrate Community Through Art.” To demonstrate this mission, AFAS set out to construct a building that could house all of their programmatic needs while also serving to create a complementary bookend to their already existing art park, ARTivity on the Green.

The AFAS Center for the Arts is a result of many site plan and floor plan test fits that responded to the needs of the client, and the need to create a physical extension for ARTivity on the Green. The biproduct of those test fits yielded a three-story structure that warranted a very public and transparent ground floor for art galleries such as Red Dog Gallery and Studio 2.
A semi-private and diffused second floor that could house artist studios, and a multi-functional art classroom for teaching everything from Hip Hop Dance classes to figure drawing.
The third and final floor would become the organizations home base for carrying out their mission, as well as holding board meetings and community outreach programs. The AFAS Center for the Arts has truly become an artistic beacon for the community, while also providing for a modern and iconic extension to the park.
By serving as an art piece in and of itself, the Art for Art’s Sake building was designed to support the AFAS Group’s mission statement of building, educating, and celebrating community through art.
